Snow cycling probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions e-bikes, but this EUNORAU model seems to be made just for that.
Equipped with dual motors, the bike is extremely fun to ride around in the snow. It is a great way of rediscovering old trails under a snowy blanket and get some winter biking under your belt. The bike comes with all sorts of equipment and accessories that make the whole process very entertaining.
Regardless of the terrain, the bike proved very capable of surmounting hills, fields, pavement and even some ice. However, dual motors drain the battery rather quickly. About seven miles spent some 1/3 of the juice. Still, for the amount of fun you are getting, it is well worth it.
Specifications
EUNORAU FAT-AWD has two geared hub motors. The one in the back is rated for 350 W, while the one in the front is 250 W. With pedal assist, you can get it up to 20 mph, or 32 kmh. The battery is 48 V 10 Ah, enough for about 10 miles or 16 kilometers. One of the reasons for such high consumption, apart from two motors, is the bike’s weight.
At 62 lbs (28.12 kg) it is rather heavy. It sits on 26″ x 4″ Kenda Juggernaut, perfect fat tires for snow. Brakes are Promax 160mm Mechanical Disc and it comes with Shimano Altus drive train. The bike has an LED display, motor selector switch, lights, metal fenders, a rear rack for your gear, and a removable battery.
The Ride
We have seen several dual motor bikes in the past. So far, they all have been able to function as pedal-assist bikes only. While FAT-AWD is far from being a technological wonder, it seems to be able to function as a pure electric bike, without the need for pedaling. That means you can just turn the throttle and have fun with it.
The ability to pump more juice into the motors is a huge benefit. It means you can overcome tough sections of the trail without the need for pedaling. It makes life so much simpler. There is no need to worry about pedal placement, gear selection, or even proper balance. With your legs stationary, you can use them for balance. It also means you can lower the seat, thus lowering your center of gravity, which makes balancing that much easier.
Winter Commute on E-bike
The rear rack suggests that you can use this bike as a commuter. With dual motors, fat tires, and a throttle, it is certainly capable of the job, but it would be an overkill. Even if you leave in an area that has plenty of snowfall, on the road there is not much difference between this bike and some cheaper purpose-built commuter.
Where this bike excels is on the winter trails. Not many bikes, if any, can do what it does over the snow-covered landscape. Frankly, that is the main reason we would recommend buying one. If you are looking for a fun winter activity, this bike is for you.
Dual Motor E-Bike Price
Costing $1,699, EUNORAU FAT-AWD is not the cheapest e-bike on the market, but it is far from being the most expensive one. If you are looking for a bike that can provide some entertainment during winter months or a commuter that can double as an enjoyable ride on the weekends, FAT-AWD is a perfect solution.
