Triumph has announced the latest addition to their Modern Classics line, this time the 2019 Triumph Speed Twin. Visually, the bike represents the old school designed, in order to appeal to the younger riders who can’t seem to get enough of the retro look, provided it comes with all the modern amenities.

And we can’t blame them for their choice. After all, why ride just another generic Japanese crotch rocket, when you can have something like this?

There aren’t many factories that can boast a heritage similar to the one Triumph has. Although the current iteration of the company was founded in the 1980s, the original one was started a whole century before, in 1885.

Design of Triumph Speed Twin

The 2019 Triumph Speed Twin design was inspired by its predecessor, a 1938 Speed Twin, one of the most iconic roadsters Triumph has ever built. The current version has a bit naked feel to it, which is the essential part of its appeal.

One of the first things that catch the eye is the thorough blacking bike has received, from rims to the frame. Almost everything is painted black, with few notable exceptions. Handlebars feature a large dual analog clock and the single front lamp only enhances the retro look.

With the use of aluminum cradle, the designers managed to keep the weight down to 432 pounds. The steering is extremely short, so the bike just loves turning, keeping in line with its predecessor. Coupled with a powerful 1,200 cc twin-cylinder engine delivering 96 hp and 82.6 lb-ft, it promises a very fun ride.

Despite its retro look, the bike is full of modern goodies, like a three-mode drive. You can choose between Sport, Road, and Rain, depending on the road conditions and your mood. It also has a traction control, in order to keep all those horses on the road, where they belong.

The tires are 17’’ Pirelli Diablo Rosso, 120/70 at the front and 160/60 at the rear. Brembo is in charge of breaking, with massive 305 mm discs at the front and 220 mm at the back.
